Static vs dynamic QR codes
The choice between static and dynamic changes whether you can ever edit the code, track it, or fix a mistake without reprinting. Here is the plain version.
What a static QR code is
A static code encodes the data directly into the pattern. The data is permanent, so if the destination changes you have to reprint. Static codes are free, never expire, and need no account. On TurtleQR the static types are vCard, Wi-Fi, email, phone, SMS, WhatsApp, crypto, event, app, social, and plain text.
What a dynamic QR code is
A dynamic code encodes a short redirect instead of the data. Because the redirect is editable, you can change the destination, count scans, and update content without touching the printed code. Dynamic types need a free account. On TurtleQR the dynamic types are URL, Menu, Coupon, and List of links.
When to use each
Use a static code for fixed information that will never change, like the Wi-Fi password on a guest placard or contact details on a card. Use a dynamic code for anything that might change, like a campaign link, a menu, or a coupon, and for anything you want to measure.
The catch most vendors do not mention
With most QR services, a dynamic code stops working the moment you stop paying, and every printed copy goes dark. TurtleQR is built the other way: your dynamic codes keep redirecting to a fallback you choose, even on the free tier. See what happens when you stop paying.
